5 Ways to Make Your Family Room Cozy for the Cooler Months

As the cooler months approach, we need to find ways to make our home comfortable and cozy. The family room is an excellent place to start, especially since it’s the place we retreat to in the evening when we want to relax and unwind.

Here I will share with you five simple ways to make your family room cozy for the cooler months.

These are some of my favorites…

1. Soft Throw Blanket

Who doesn’t enjoy snuggling up with a throw blanket to warm up from your shoulders down to your toes? I love this one because it’s an ultra-soft, anti-shedding faux fur throw blanket. It also comes in an array of fun colors for whatever your color palette is.

You can machine-wash it on a gentle cycle by itself, then air-dry it.

It also makes a great holiday or housewarming gift.

I love this realistic color but you can have some fun with colors ranging from pink, blues, green and ivory.

2. Lamps with soft light

Another way of making your family room cozy in the cooler months is by adding lamps with soft light that offer flexibility. I love this option because it meets all the requirements for good lighting: general, task, and ambient. The linen shades give a soft illumination. Plus, they have USB ports for convenient device charging. I also love that they offer a variety of finishes.

I love the warmth of the bronze option, but they also offer a brushed white and gray that are very cool.

3. frame TV

I have been transforming my clients’ family rooms by encouraging them to change from a standard wall-mounted TV to this incredible art screen. For decades, I've tried to downplay TVs or hide them behind doors or expensive art-frame screens. These are the greatest inventions for making your family room feel cozy for the winter months. You can change the art throughout the year to suit the season or your art preference.

It’s sleek, with only one cable, and the glare-free QLED technology delivers excellent picture quality.

Choose your favorite artwork to display or let it scroll randomly. Change it for the season or your mood. Even without the added frame this is a great looking TV.

4. battery operated candles

I never thought I would use battery-operated candles, but over time they have improved in quality. They are safer, cleaner, and you can easily set them to turn on at the same time every day, so you can enjoy the warmth they add to your room. This is my preferred brand. They look natural when they are on or off and are made of natural wax. When turned on, the flickering light adds a warm glow and ambiance that makes your family room cozy during the cooler months.

Creamy white is always a good choice, but they offer a fun variety of colors to work with your decor.

5. dura Flame Space heater

I can’t say enough about how much I love the duraflame free standing electric fireplace stove. I have one in red that both my husband and I use every evening while we watch our favorite series, sports or movie. It warms up the space just enough to take the chill out of the room and makes our family room feel cozy for the cooler months with it’s flickering light.

We actually have a real wood burning Vermont Cast Iron Stove in our sunroom room too which we love to use. But sometimes after a long day the convenience of using a remote to click this one on is so nice.

These cute little stoves come in a variety of fun colors to complement your decor.

You don’t have to implement all of these ideas. Choose the ones that feel right. Mix & match. Add & take away. Even if you implement one or two of these improvements, you will see the difference. Enjoy the benefits of a cozy family room in the cooler months.
